Unreached and Unengaged People Groups are those people groups that are less than 2% Evangelical and have no one working among them. They most likely have little or no resources in their own language and are likely to be non-literates. The International Mission Board, SBC is making use of a free tool from Tableau to visualize their information on people groups that they display on their People Groups website. We here are WorldMAP love to see information displayed in new ways. Click anywhere on the charts or map or tables below to interact with the data. The 03/11/2011 earthquake (preliminary magnitude 8.9) near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, occurred as a result of thrust faulting on or near the subduction zone interface plate boundary between the Pacific and North America plates. At the latitude of this earthquake, the Pacific plate moves approximately westwards with respect to the North America plate at a velocity of 83 mm/yr. The Pacific plate thrusts underneath Japan at the Japan Trench, and dips to the west beneath Eurasia. The location, depth, and focal mechanism of the March 11 earthquake are consistent with the event having occurred as thrust faulting associated with subduction along this plate boundary. Note that some authors divide this region into several microplates that together define the relative motions between the larger Pacific, North America and Eurasia plates; these include the Okhotsk and Amur microplates that are respectively part of North America and Eurasia.

The March 11 earthquake was preceded by a series of large foreshocks over the previous two days, beginning on March 9th with an M 7.2 event approximately 40 km from the March 11 earthquake, and continuing with a further 3 earthquakes greater than M 6 on the same day.

The Japan Trench subduction zone has hosted 9 events of magnitude 7 or greater since 1973. The largest of these was an M 7.8 earthquake approximately 260 km to the north of the March 11 event, in December 1994, which caused 3 fatalities and almost 700 injuries. In June of 1978, an M 7.7 earthquake 35 km to the southwest caused 22 fatalities and over 400 injuries

Consider how you may create an interactive prayer time for countries and unreached people groups.

Picture a map the size of large banquet room in a hotel. Now picture that the floor of the room is completely covered by a world map as well as a map of your city that is 10m by 10m. You could actually stand on a country with multiple people or kneel and pray for a certain neighborhood. We recently had that experience that will stay with us for a long time.

Watch this video:

Consider how you may pray for a country or for unreached peoples. Create your own prayer time by printing out maps from www.worldmap.org or lists of peoples from peoplegroups.org, joshuaproject.net or etnopedia.org, or finishingthetask.com.

The team here at WorldMAP has recently created a Google Map file of the Unreached and Unengaged People Groups that are the focus for Finishing the Task. We have taken the people group mapping project from the IMB and converted the data into the KMZ file format for Google Earth. Then we used a program called KMLer to create the html that would be used to create the popup. The popup contains links to the Ethnologue based off of the language as well as a picture from Joshua Project.

To download the Finishing the Task Google Earth file click here:

Make sure that you have the desktop version of Google Earth to view the file. It can be downloaded by clicking the globe:

Here is what they are doing on their website.

The Task

Today there are 632 Unengaged, Unreached People Groups with populations more than 50,000 who are still beyond the reach of the gospel of Jesus Christ. These 231,000,000 people are spiritually lost and helpless like sheep having no Shepherd. Among them Christ remains unknown, unacknowledged, and unadored.

These 632 are perhaps the neediest of the needy. They are unengaged, which means that no one church, no one mission agency… no one has yet taken responsibility to tell them of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. The 632 are at the very heart of the unfinished Great Commission task. Can one church actually make a difference among the 632 unengaged, unreached peoples of the world?

With the enabling of the One true living, all-powerful God, one church can make a difference. Will you be one of the ones?

The Vision

To see every people group in the world engaged with an indigenously led church planting movement.

The Mission

To form a global network of local churches, denominations, church planters, and mission agencies that are willing to work together in partnership to see church planting initiatives launched among the 632 Unengaged, Unreached People Groups (UUPGs) with populations over 50,000.

Adopting an Unengaged, Unreached People Group

If you and your church are interested in adopting a people group and commiting to send workers to one of these groups, please visit our “List” page. There you can look up people groups or even download a current list of Unengaged, Unreached People Groups and contact us.

Commit to Pray

You and your church can commit to pray for one of these Unengaged, Unreached People Groups. To commit to pray click here. If you would like to place a link from your web site to the commit to pray tool, you may find instructions for doing so here.

Over the last few weeks a new map set has been completed on WorldMAP.org. The map set includes the same data of Bible Translation Status, Jesus Film Translation Status, and the Global Status of Evangelical Christianity and applies it to the predominant language in each populated place. For each country of the world, the maps portray the actual areas where people live and the resources that are available to them.
